WHAT IS ASTROLOGY?
A lot of people either don’t really know what astrology is, or if they sort of know what it is they don’t quite know what it is good for or how to apply it, much less how to take it seriously.
The short answer...
Astrology is an ancient practice of studying planetary and luminary cycles and how they resonate and synchronize with our journey through life on Earth.
Evolutionary Astrology provides deep insight into our soul’s intentions in this lifetime and the evolution of our consciousness, such as why we experience certain situations, and where to focus our energy so that we can do our soul’s work and grow to be the best possible version of ourself.
The long answer...
Astrology is a body of knowledge best described, in short, as a window into the potentialities and nuances of all life on Earth. It is difficult to explain HOW it works, but it works. Frankly, and at the risk of sounding preposterous, our fellow planets and luminaries are conscious entities; they are alive and actively generating energy, just as any living entity does. In other words, they are orbs of immense influence, each emanating different etheric forces which we cannot describe, other than to say these forces reach us here on Earth and create reactions within the time/space continuum we know as third dimensional reality. For instance, the emanating force from Uranus has a frequency that reacts with a frequency on Earth that experientially is associated with rapid and sudden inspiration; an enlightening resonance. Thus, the consciousness of Uranus creates rapid and sudden inspiration by way of a resonant reaction between its frequency and ours. If we were to imagine ourselves standing in an open field alone, a light wind blowing from the south, stars glittering in a dark night sky…we feel, we listen, we stand straighter and finally experience a flash of awakening, a moment of clarity, heart-warming inspiration, a deep understanding of life. This is a direct reaction between the resonating frequencies in our etheric composition—our aura—and the long-approaching forces emanating from the consciousness of Uranus.
Practicing astrology involves studying, learning, and being able to recognize the patterns, cycles, and effects of the aforementioned frequencies in the configurations of planetary and luminary entities on the ecliptic, the path upon which the zodiac exists; entities that are enmeshed in mythologies embedded in our collective unconscious. Throughout history, astrology teachings have strayed little from their original meanings, even with differences in mythological attributions toward the planets from culture to culture. Mercury, for instance, has always influenced commerce, messages, cleverness, education, and travel, regardless if the planet itself was named after a different god from a culture other than Roman culture, such as the Greek Hermes, the Hindi Buddhi, the Icelandic Máls Stjarna, the Egyptian Thoth, or the Babylonian Nabu. Mythology is first and foremost the bridge of understanding between the essence of the planetary emanations and our resonating collective unconscious here on Earth. What I mean by that is, from a Jungian perspective, all history and pre-history resides within our collective unconsciousness, and as such we unconsciously experience and create history as we relate to it. Our dreams are filled with symbols and stories directly related to symbols and stories we have either seen or will see in the future. Quantum physics has proven that time is not linear, thus if reincarnation is valid, it is quite possible we have already experienced parts of our future, as we are familiar with the word future. Past lives didn’t necessarily happen in what we are familiar with as the past. They have already happened, that is all. If time is not linear, despite the movement of the planets through the limiting third dimension—of which we are mostly only familiar with—coaxing us to believe otherwise, anything can happen at any time. However, the capacity of our consciousness to understand and accept the past being the future and vice versa is not large enough yet. If our consciousness is evolving (expanding), then perhaps this is what is taking place; we are creating a greater capacity within our consciousness to understand the breadth of reality, the breadth of Truth.
As to astrology’s accuracy and legitimacy, that can either be taken completely on true faith or be decided upon by one who takes the time to study it, practice it, and apply it. If one chooses to disbelieve its legitimacy and accuracy, it is because they have not studied, practiced, or applied it to their lives. Once one does these three things with astrology, it is almost certain they will recognize astrology's inherent value on multiple levels.
First things first, astrology has been around since pre-history. To quite literally illustrate this, the cluster of stars known as the Pleiades, which is within the constellation of Taurus, is depicted on the ancient cave walls of Lascaux in southern France directly above a painting of a bull. Additionally, the cluster of stars known as Hyades, also within the constellation of Taurus, is seen within the same bull’s face. The bull, of course, is the archetype associated with the zodiac sign of Taurus. These paintings in the caves at Lascaux are thought by some to be the work of ancient shamans depicting our cosmography. Although this is pretty convincing evidence that humans have been studying the night sky and recognizing figures and archetypes within it for at least 15,000 years, when the Lascaux cave paintings were created, many people are not convinced. As such, there will be no end to skeptics seeking to disprove astrology, no matter any evidence supporting it.
In the time period of recorded history, however, there is clear representation of astrology found all over the world. From China to Japan, India to Persia, Egypt to Europe, and all over the Americas, astrology has played an integral role in developing physical structures that correspond to seasonal changes, celestial events, and assisting farmers in knowing when to sow and reap their crops. Voyaging beyond, astrology guides shamans, priests, and spiritual healers in understanding the subtleties of human relations and the outcomes of certain initiatives within the collective psychological conditions of consciousness and experiential reality. Modern astrology concerns itself primarily with these latter metaphysical applications.
